Meeting Summary from 2005 AED Annual Meeting—Montreal, Canada

At our recent meeting in Montreal, we addressed the several major objectives for our SIG and offered some structure for pursuing them.  These objectives included the following:

1. Organize and submit a plenary for AED in Barcelona on male eating
disorders.
   a.  Epidemiology of male ED
   b.  Phenotype/Genotype
   c.  Clinical Features/treatment
   d.  Male body image disturbance
   e.  Anabolic Steroid and other appearance altering drug use

2.  Prioritize the creation of position papers on the following topics.
   a.  Measurement/diagnosis of male ED
   b.  Male body image
   c.  Treatment/intervention
   d.  Prevention of male ED
   e.  Epidemiology/nosology

3.  Activate our AED Web site privileges
   a.  Add reference lists to Web site
   b.  Finalize list for listserve
   c. organize and educate SIG members on live chat features
   d.  Specialize list of treatment centers/providers with specialized
services for males with an ED

4.  Outreach to other organizations for AED sponsored plenaries
   a.  AABT (Now AABCT) in collaboration with their Male SIG
   b.  Other organizations or conferences (APA, EDRS, APPA, etc.)

In order to pursue these topics Mark Warren will lead the organization of the plenary in Barcelona.  Rita and Tom will divide up the position paper objectives and look for volunteers to help generate these papers.  In conjunction with these paper topics, reference lists will be added to the AED Web site for those with interest.  We are looking for someone with computer savvy to help with website related business and all are invited to participate in objective 4.  Tom will reach out to the head of the Male SIG at AABT (Michael Addis) to determine if enough interest exists for an AED sponsored plenary.
