2007 Call for Fellows

The Academy for Eating Disorders (AED) Fellows Committee is pleased to announce its 2007 Call for Fellows Applications. AED awards fellow status to recognize outstanding contributions to the field of eating disorders by AED members. The list of AED fellows (see http://www.aedweb.org/about/fellows.cfm) reflects a diversity of contributions to the field -- and the interdisciplinary and international composition of AED’s membership.

Eligibility for fellow status is open to those who have been full AED members in good standing for at least five years. Successful applicants will usually be contributing actively (through various offices and committees) to the mission of the Academy. They will also be able to demonstrate significant contributions in five (or more) of the following areas:

• Active in other professional organizations that contribute to the field of eating disorders
• Clinical contributions demonstrating excellence in the care of eating-disorder patients
• Excellence in teaching in an academic or clinical setting related to eating disorders
• Research accomplishments that have expanded knowledge in the field of eating disorders
• Scientific and scholarly publications and service on the editorial boards of journals related to the field of eating disorders
• Significant participation in conferences focused on eating disorders
• Active involvement in advocacy organizations concerned with eating disorders
• Community service contributing to the treatment or prevention of eating disorders
• Development or administration of programs for eating disorders

To apply for fellow status, please send a letter (signed and dated) clearly outlining your contributions in the areas outlined above and a current curriculum vitae. Both the letter and curriculum vitae should be sent to AED headquarters at fellows@aedweb.org by Jan. 24, 2007.

Once this initial information is reviewed by the fellows committee, applicants may be requested to supply more information prior to acceptance, including:

• Completed application form (available from AED headquarters)
• Copy of professional school diploma
• Copy of current license or other certification (as appropriate to one’s discipline and location)
• Two letters of recommendation from AED fellows who are able to comment on the applicant's suitability for fellow status
• Copies of publications or additional supporting data

The induction of individuals accepted into the AED fellows class of 2007 will take place during the 2007 International Conference on Eating Disorders, to be held May 2-5, 2007, at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland USA.
