Student Research Grants
Application Deadline: January 2, 2009
The AED Board of Directors is excited to again sponsor the AED Student Research Grants Program. The purpose of the program is to support innovative and cutting-edge research conducted by student members of the AED.
In 2009, the AED will award at least two grants of US $1,000 each to support any aspect of a student research project, including (but not limited to) participant payments, support staff salaries and costs related to study assessments and/or database management. However, funds may not be used for travel or stipend/salary support for the awardee.
Please submit all application materials to grants@aedweb.org. All applications are due no later than January 2nd, 2009.
Eligibility:
- Applicants must be student AED members or a completed membership application must accompany the grant materials.
- Applicants must be nominated by a non-student member of AED.
- In the same year, students may apply for a either an AED Student Research Grant or an AED Travel Scholarship, but not both. However, students are encouraged to apply for these mechanisms in different years.
Application Materials:
Materials Submitted by Nominee
Applicants should submit the following materials:
- The AED Common Application form
- A current curriculum vita.
- A two-page, single-spaced Research Plan outlining the specific aims of the project, the background literature, the study procedure and methods and the timeline for completion. Within the research plan, nominees should provide a brief statement that indicates: 1) whether the research fulfills a degree requirement (i.e., a thesis, a dissertation; NOTE: the information on whether the research is for a degree is not a requirement, but is helpful information for the review committee); and 2) how the funds will be spent in the conduct of the research.
- A detailed budget that lists materials and other items and their costs.
Materials Submitted by Nominators/Referees
Nominators/Referees should submit the following materials:
- A nomination letter from a non-student member of the AED. This letter can be no longer than 500 words in length and should comment on the Nominee's research plan, his/her potential as a researcher and the potential for the successful completion of the proposed project.
- One additional letter of support from a faculty member from the Nominee's institution or in the eating disorders field. This letter should be no longer than 500 words in the length and should address the importance of the Nominee's proposed research and the Nominee's contributions to this work.
Application Process:
- Applications will be reviewed by the AED Scientific Committee.
- All application materials should be sent electronically to the AED Headquarters at grants@aedweb.org
- Applications are due no later than January 2nd, 2009
Post-Award Procedures:
Awardees will be encouraged (but not required) to attend the AED International Conference on Eating Disorders to receive their award and research funds.
