The Sexual and Gender Identity SIG covers all issues relating to eating disorders and associated features in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer (LGBTIQ) communities.
The aims of our SIG are to: Unite AED members interested in eating disorders and associated factors in LGBTIQ communities, work together to stay current on research pertaining to eating disorders and sexual and gender identity, sexual orientation, and other associated topics, share resources and ideas about eating disorders in LGBTIQ communities, be a resource to professionals outside the SIG regarding eating disorders in LGBTIQ communities regarding treatment, prevention, and associated issues, collaborate on further research efforts investigating eating disorders and associated features in LGBTIQ communities, promote the work of the Sexual and Gender Identity SIG group to increase representation of eating disorders and LGBTIQ individuals at AED conferences, monitor research efforts outside of the eating disorder literature regarding the affirmative treatment of LGBTIQ identified individuals, and to identify, evaluate, establish, and disseminate educational and training resources regarding treating and preventing eating disorders in LGBTIQ communities. |
