Hispano Latino American Special Interest Group

Each region has its own characteristics, and problems related to eating disorders (ED) are not an exceptions to the rule.
The number of people affected by ED in Hispanic America has increased. Because of its recent appearance, we have not yet developed prevention and treatment programs, or begun research projects.
The isolated efforts that are being made in each country haven't conformed yet to a network that could allow the exchange of information among countries.
Because of this, the existence of the SIG is necessary to promote exchange meetings, as well as to intensify the bonds with the Academy and represent it in Spanish countries.
The objectives of the Hispanoamerica SIG are:
- Create a SIG to establish a professional network that gathers specialists in the area of ED
- Diffuse information about activities related to the AED in the Spanish-speaking countries
Future Goals and Planned Activities

We hope to create a Virtual Forum of discussion through the SIG and create an electronic bulletin and suggest comparative studies of the ED in Hispanic America.
A board of directors will be created with one member representing the countries involved. Each representative will establish the link between the Academy and the colleagues of different countries. We hope this will increase the number of Spanish-speaking specialists in ED. as members of the Academy.
The following items will be considered to evaluate the performance of the SIG in the next two years:
- Published numbers of the Electronic Bulletin and related investigations
- Number of members who joined the SIG
- Number of new Spanish-speaking members who have joined AED through the activities of the SIG
