AED General E-mail Listserv Policy
Purpose:
The purpose of this policy is to outline the procedure and etiquette for use of the Academy for Eating Disorders listservs (http://forums.aedweb.org/), which run using the internet-based WebBoard Collaboration Server.
Policy:
The AED will have two general e-mail listservs. The primary purpose of the Members Listserv will be for posting job announcements, requests for referrals, communications from the AED Board, Councils, or Committees, and general questions to the AED membership about scientific or clinical issues. This listserv will be open to AED Members only.
By contrast, the Events and Announcements Listserv will be open to the public and will be used to post other organization’s newsletters or information about their conferences or meeting events.
Help:
This document lays out a few details about using the internet-based AED listservs from WebBoard Collaboration Server. Detailed help is available at all times from WebBoards by clicking on Help in the top menu at http://forums.aedweb.org/.
Procedure:
Signing Up:
- The Members Listserv is closed to the general public. As a new or existing member of AED you will automatically be set up to participate in the listserv discussion via the WebBoard. Nonmembers who wish to communicate with AED members can subscribe to the Events and Announcements WebBoard listserv. [Note: automatic subscription for members remains to
Posting Procedures:
- All posts should be made via the AED WebBoard (http://forums.aedweb.org/), for the appropriate listserv. This WebBoard scans all message attachments before sending to the recipient. The listserv will not process attachments that are sent via e-mail responses. For that reason, we encourage you to post to the listserv WebBoard directly rather than using the listserv e-mail.
- Attachments may be sent ONLY through the AED WebBoard. Again, WebBoard will screen all attachments for viruses, whereas messages sent through the listserv e-mail address cannot process or forward attachments to the list.
- Requests for referrals should indicate the request in the title to the e-mail (e.g., “Referral in Ann Arbor, MI”). This allows members to quickly screen these messages for their relevance.
- Unless otherwise indicated, responses to members’ posted questions should be sent directly back to the member, rather than the entire e-mail listserv. This decreases the overall number of messages received via listserv. If a response to the entire membership is desirable, this can be indicated in the original request by stating, “Please respond to all members using the listserv WebBoard.”
- If you use e-mail to respond to listserv messages, note that unless you cc: your own e-mail address specifically you will not receive a copy of the e-mail you are sending even though you are a subscriber to that listserv.
Withdrawing:
- Listserv member may un-entroll themselves from any listserv using one of two methods:Go to http://forums.aedweb.org/, select Options at the top of the page, then My Mailing Lists, then uncheck any listservs boards that you wish to. Click Update Options when you have made all the appropriate changes.
- Unsubscrib using the e-mail link provided in the listserv e-mail (i.e., staff.list-request@forums.aedweb.org)
DO NOT send an e-mail to the listserv requesting that you be removed.
