Postdoctoral Psychology Associates in Eating Disorders at Yale University School of Medicine
The Department of Psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine is seeking qualified candidates for three Postdoctoral Psychology Associate positions in a busy research clinic. New treatment studies supported by NIH grants will provide training and clinical-research opportunities for individuals interested in careers in eating disorders and obesity, with a specific focus on the treatment of binge-eating disorder. There will be two tracks and candidates are asked to indicate which track is preferred. Although there is considerable overlap between the two tracks, one is structured for individuals interested in clinical practice and program leadership and one is structured for clinical research in academic medical school and health-care systems.
"Clinical" Post-Doctoral Associate Position
The "clinical" position is tailored toward careers in clinical practice and program development/leadership (i.e., clinicians and clinician-educators) in academic medical school and health-care systems. This position will provide ample clinical and supervision hours for independent psychology licensure and opportunities for outreach and clinical education presentations. Clinical work will involve delivering behavioral and cognitive-behavioral treatments and administering diagnostic and clinical assessments within the context of NIH-funded treatment studies. In addition, clinical post-doctoral associates will participate in program development and tiered supervision (after first year of postdoctoral training is complete).
Strong clinical skills and experience in evidence-based treatments and assessment methods (e.g., semi-structured diagnostic interviews) are required. Candidates must have a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology, completed an APA-approved internship, and have experience with patients with eating disorders and/or obesity.
"Clinical-Research" Post-Doctoral Associate Position
The clinical-research position is tailored towards careers in clinical research (i.e., clinical-scholar and traditional faculty) in academic medical school settings. This position will include a combination of clinical work (which meets licensure requirements) and study coordination with opportunities for writing manuscripts and grants. Clinical work will involve delivering behavioral and cognitive-behavioral treatments and administering diagnostic and clinical interviews within the context of NIH-funded treatment studies for diverse patient groups with eating disorders/disordered eating. In addition, clinical-research post-doctoral associates will participate in protocol development and implementation, as well as administrative tasks involved in running an NIH-funded trial. Data from several completed treatment and longitudinal studies will be available for research projects.
Candidates must have a doctoral degree in clinical, health, or counseling psychology, completed an APA-approved internship, and experience with patients with eating disorders. Experience with assessment methods (e.g., semi-structured diagnostic interviews), evidence-based treatment, good statistical skills, and good writing skills (including publications in peer-reviewed journals) are required. This position is tailor-made for loan repayment program applications and is ideal for persons pursuing clinical-research academic careers. Intensive mentored opportunities exist for (extensive) publishing and for grant-writing.
Members of under-represented groups are especially encouraged to apply as are individuals who have interests in health disparities and eating disorders. Several studies are examining bias and disparities.
Start date is July/August 2021; one position can be filled as early as January 2021.
