POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN PEDIATRIC PSYCHOLOGY
CHOC Children's Hospital (CHOC) is pleased to offer one postdoctoral fellowship position in pediatric psychology consultation liaison with an emphasis on eating disorders for the 2020-2021 training year.
CONSULTAION LIAISON/ EATING DISORDERS Track (1 position): One fellowship position in pediatric psychology will have a primary focus on Consultation and Liaison with a specialization in Eating Disorders. The fellowship is located at both CHOC Children's Hospital main campus (Orange) and CHOC Children's satellite hospital in South Orange County, California at CHOC Children's at Mission Hospital, which provides general pediatric services along with neonatal and pediatric intensive care.
The fellow will work with the general Psychology Consultation and Liaison service providing consultation to the medical units in the hospital. Consult requests include the evaluation of unexplained pain disorders, conversion disorders, adjustment to new diagnoses, preparation for surgery or procedures, end of life issues, communication between families and the medical team, and assessment of high risk situations (suicide attempts, mental status changes).
The fellow will also have the opportunity to develop specialty expertise by working with the inpatient Medical Stabilization for Eating Disorders program. Within the Eating Disorders program, fellows will have the opportunity for an immersive training experience in eating disorders, using a family based approach. The fellow will be involved in the assessment and delivery of evidence-based services to the patient and family with the goal of assisting with medical rescue and alleviating distress. Fellows also will be instrumental in disposition planning and linking patients and families to additional services and resources upon discharge from the medical stabilization inpatient hospitalization. The fellow works closely with a variety of medical teams and disciplines including attending physicians, nurses, dieticians, social services, child life, physical, occupational, and speech therapy. The fellow will take a leadership role in helping to coordinate the consultation service.
The fellow will also have a small outpatient therapy caseload consisting of pediatric psychology cases with co-occurring mental health and medical diagnoses. All fellows will have opportunities to provide supervision to practicum students and/or interns. Fellows will also participate in didactic seminars and trainings, including a specific postdoctoral seminar. All fellows complete a postdoctoral fellow project and receive training in the provision of community presentations. Fellows may have the opportunity to teach medical students and residents.
The Training Program is housed in the Department of Pediatric Psychology at CHOC Children's, which provides comprehensive psychological services throughout CHOC Children's Hospital. CHOC Children's serves a socially and ethnically diverse community and supervision includes work with bilingual and bicultural psychologists and psychiatrists. For our bi-lingual/Spanish speaking trainees, a specialized program to increase comfort and competence in the provision of Spanish language services will be provided and opportunities exist for specialized training in bilingual assessment.

mnagel@choc.org. The CHOC Children's psychology training program also includes an APA-accredited predoctoral internship. Completion of an APA-accredited doctoral training program is required; preference is given to those who have completed an APA-accredited internship.
