Postdoctoral Associate in Child Eating Disorders at Yale University School of Medicine
The Department of Psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine is seeking qualified candidates for Postdoctoral Psychology Associate positions. New studies supported by NIH grants will provide training and clinical-research opportunities for individuals interested in careers in eating disorders and weight stigma in youth.
The postdoc position has a child psychology focus and is housed within the Yale Program for Obesity, Weight, and Eating Research (POWER), which provides treatments for adults with obesity, disordered eating, and binge-eating disorder in the context of research studies. The postdoc will participate in treatment studies for binge eating and weight-related bullying, for children and adolescents. Activities include, for example, study coordination, program development, assessment, and providing manualized treatment. Postdocs will work closely with faculty and other pre- and post-doctoral clinical-researchers at Yale POWER. Other studies at POWER, which offer clinical-research opportunities with adults, include controlled treatment studies testing behavioral, cognitive-behavioral, pharmacologic, and combination/sequenced treatments for binge eating and obesity, intervention and (multi-site) longitudinal studies with bariatric surgery patients, and interdisciplinary and translational efforts integrating experimental laboratory and field methods to examine mechanisms of change.
Candidates must have a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology and must have completed APA-approved internship. The ideal candidate will have experience providing behavioral or cognitive-behavioral therapy to children and/or experience with child eating disorders. Experience with assessment methods (e.g., semi-structured diagnostic interviews) and good writing skills (including publications in peer-reviewed journals) are required. Positions are full-time for 1-2 years (with strong preference for 2-year positions), meet requirements for psychology licensure, are tailor-made for loan repayment program applications, and are ideal for persons pursuing clinical-research or clinical-educator academic careers. Mentored opportunities exist for publishing and grant-writing. Positions are tailored to fit individuals' career trajectories and goals.
Members of under-represented groups in clinical-research are especially encouraged to apply as are individuals who have interests in health disparities and eating disorders. Several on-going studies are examining bias and disparities.
Applications will be reviewed starting Fall 2020 and will be accepted until position is filled. Start date is July 2021 (although Aug/Sept 2021 may be possible to consider).
