The Center for the Advancement of Research on Eating Behaviors (CARE) Laboratory has an opening for a Research Aide (RA). The scope of the research project includes a $1.7 million grant from the Department of Defense (DoD). The purpose of the DoD grant is to develop a new screening tool to identify military and veterans with an eating disorder. The project will involve assessment of veterans to determine eating, mood, anxiety, and trauma-related disorders. The RA will also learn about team-based science by collaborating with our team of research interns, PhD students, post-doctoral scholars, junior and senior co-investigators, and the study PI. The RA will also have opportunities to assist the PI with IRB and grant submissions.

This two-year position is an outstanding opportunity for individuals seeking more training and research experience prior to applying to graduate or medical school!

The RA will help our research team assemble study materials, assist with day-to-day lab tasks, and assist the PI and Postdoctoral Researcher with data collection and quality assurance of the protocol. The RA will assist with tracking veterans through our protocol, helping ensure timeliness of the survey schedule, and assist faculty, technical staff, and undergraduate interns to ensure the study the timely completion of the project on schedule.

The RA will also be responsible for assisting with on- and off-site training in research protocols and structured clinical interviews. There will also be opportunities to assist with research assessments of eating, anxiety, mood, and trauma-related disorders as part of the DoD studies. In addition to our DoD funded study, our laboratory conducts several other projects, including a large longitudinal study of over 250 community-recruited adults with eating disorders and two pilot brain imaging studies.

There will also be opportunities to provide on-campus and community-based outreach and training eating-disorders assessment in civilian and veteran populations; providing assessments of eating, anxiety, mood, and trauma-related disorders as part of our DoD-funded studies; and building mentorship skills by co-supervising undergraduate research interns.
