Military Cardiovascular Outcomes Research Program (MiCOR)
Metis Foundation, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences

The MiCOR program exists as a cooperative agreement between the Defense Health Agency of the Department of Defense and the F. Edward Hébert School of Medicine of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, Maryland.

The mission of MiCOR is to define best practices related to the prevention and mitigation of cardiovascular disease in the military in order to enhance personnel readiness, minimize healthcare costs, and reduce cardiovascular morbidity later in life. This multidisciplinary program integrates expertise from fields including cardiology, psychology, pharmacology, and metabolic disorders, among others. MiCOR supports both basic research and randomized clinical trials in active duty personnel, retirees, and their dependents to evaluate and establish state-of-the-art approaches for treating conditions that give rise to cardiovascular illnesses. We are focusing on many physiological, psychological, and behavioral risk factors for the development of cardiovascular diseases such as high body weight, diabetes, hypertension, atrial fibrillation, atherosclerosis, affect and stress concerns, and dysregulated eating behaviors.

    Position Search
The MiCOR program is seeking post-doctoral fellows in clinical psychology (or a related background). The position will involve clinical research duties such as provision of individual and/or group psychotherapy and behavioral interventions as part of randomized controlled trials targeting weight gain prevention in active duty military service members, as well as administration of semi-structured psychological interviews for ongoing research studies within MiCOR. Post-doctoral fellows will also be involved in supervising research assistants and graduate students in relevant research duties (e.g., recruitment and data collection). In addition, there are opportunities to conduct research on psychological stress, eating/weight disorders, and cardiometabolic health using multiple behavioral and physiological methods. Some prior experience working with individuals with eating/weight disorders is preferred, but not required. A two year commitment is requested.
