My name is Samantha Withnell, and I am a PhD student in Clinical Psychology under the supervision of Dr. Lindsay Bodell at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. I'm reaching out in hopes that AED members may be willing to assist with recruitment for a study being conducted as part of my PhD thesis. This study is partially supported by an AED Student Research Grant. The purpose of the study is to examine how different eating problems, as well as current and historical changes in body weight, influence performance on tasks assessing various cognitive skills.
Adults across Canada and the United States who currently experience symptoms of an eating disorder are potentially eligible to participate. Currently, we are looking for participants experiencing symptoms of eating and/or body image disturbance that may be consistent with any of the major DSM-5 eating disorder diagnoses (e.g., Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, or Other Specified diagnoses).
This study would involve one study session conducted remotely over Zoom, taking between 2-3 hours. The session would involve completing an interview with a graduate student researcher about the participant's eating behaviors, as well as completing a variety of questionnaires and a series of problem-solving computer tasks on the participant's computer browser. Participants will be compensated for their time and effort.
Eligible participants:
1. Are at least 18 years old
2. Currently experience problems with their eating and/or body image
3. Have access to their own laptop or computer with a keyboard and mouse/trackpad to complete study tasks
Please consider sharing the attached flyer with any clients or participants who may meet the study's eligibility criteria. The flyer includes a QR code which directs interested participants to a letter of information and brief screening survey that will confirm their eligibility to schedule a study session.
