Yale Teen Power is recruiting adolescents (12-19 years old, all genders) for a treatment study funded by the National Eating Disorders Association. We are testing two treatments for bulimia nervosa among teens living in larger bodies: cognitive-behavioral therapy integrated with self-compassion is being compared to mindfulness. Treatment is 4-months, fully online (zoom; no in-person visits required), and open to PsyPact states across the US (https://psypact.org/mpage/psypactmap). There is no cost to participate; teens and parents can receive up to $225 per family for completing assessments.
Please refer any potential participants by emailing our program teenpower@yale.edu or you can contact me directly janet.lydecker@yale.edu. Teens/parents can also fill out our online contact form if they prefer: https://linktr.ee/yaleteenpower. We will screen potential participants! For the purpose of this study, we define bulimia broadly (binge eating = loss of control eating episodes regardless of size; purging = going to any extreme to lose weight or prevent weight gain after a binge). We are also focused on including those patients who have the experience of living in a larger body, so anyone who currently or in the past year (even if they lost weight precipitously) has higher weight is eligible.
