ALEX DEVINNY MEMORIAL scholarship

Once again, the Alex DeVinny Family is pleased to offer two conference travel scholarships of $2,000 each for the top abstracts investigating the overlap between eating disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder and/or compulsive exercise.

Only abstracts in which the first author is an early career investigator (i.e., not more than 5 years post terminal degree) are eligible. The awards are supported by a gift in loving memory of Alex DeVinny. To apply for this scholarship, simply submit an abstract matching the description above for consideration for ICED 2020 during the Call for Abstracts process in the third quarter of 2019.

Clinician Scholarship

AED annually awards up to five (5) scholarships up to $1,500 each to defray the costs of travel and hotel accommodations for recipients to attend the International Conference on Eating Disorders (ICED). 

The Clinician Scholarship Program allows recipients to gain new knowledge and skills in the field of eating disorders, and share this knowledge and experience with their respective communities. The AED clinician scholarship program helps defray ICED costs for clinicians and educators who otherwise might not be able to afford conference fees. Scholarships are made possible by the generous donations of those who contributed to the AED Scholarship Fund.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be a current AED member, or a completed membership application must accompany the scholarship application materials.
  • Applicants must work or study in a clinical environment.
  • Preference will be given to members early in their careers, those from underrepresented groups, and those who are working in developing areas.
  • Individuals who have received this award more than once, or in the prior year are not eligible.
  • Although individuals who have received this award once are eligible, preference will be given to applicants who have not previously received a clinical scholarship.

Application Guidelines:

  • Applications are accepted during the fourth quarter annually.

Application Materials:

  • Personal Statement: In 500 words or less, tell us about yourself, your interests and your current work in eating disorders, and including a description of the community in which they practice and their goals for attending the conference. A detailed and specific plan for dissemination of the knowledge/skills gained at the conference is also required. Candidates are also asked to highlight any special or unusual circumstances that they would like considered in evaluating their application.
  • Curriculum Vitae: Please include a current curriculum vitae with all academic degrees, appointments, employment history, teaching activities, community activities, references for any publications, or presentations at scientific meetings.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Please include two (2) letters of recommendation from professional associates.

Application Process:

  • Applications will be reviewed by the AED Awards and Scientific Review Committee.
  • All applicants will be notified of the results no later than 45 days after the application process closes.

Scholarships for People from Low Income Countries

AED annually awards up to five (5) travel and registration scholarships for $1,500, limited to people from countries defined below to attend the International Conference on Eating Disorders (ICED).

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be from a country classified as Low/Lower Middle/Upper Middle Income by the World Bank, or from a country underrepresented in AED.
  • Please note that AED membership is NOT required for this award. 
  • Individuals who have received this scholarship more than once, or in the prior year are not eligible.

Application Guidelines:

  • Applications are accepted during the fourth quarter annually.

Application Materials:

  • Personal Statement: In two pages or less, please tell us about yourself, including your professional interests and your current work in eating disorders. In addition, please describe the financial or political situation in your country that makes it difficult to travel to the annual conference, and please describe a clear plan for how you are planning to disseminate knowledge/skills learned at the conference. 
  • Curriculum Vitae: Please include all academic degrees, appointments/employment history, teaching activities, community activities, and references for any publications or presentations at scientific meetings.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Please arrange for two (2) letters from professional associates that address your suitability for this award.

Application Process:

  • Applications will be reviewed by the AED Awards and Scientific Review Committee
  • All applicants will be notified of the results no later than 45 days after the application process closes.
